About me

My Journey to Healing and the Creation of the HMR Method

My name is Alessandro Souza, and I’ve been living in Northern California since I moved to the United States in June 1999. I’m blessed with a wonderful wife and two amazing kids.

Over the years, I’ve worked in various industries, including retail, construction, and transportation. For a long time, I drove six to eight hours daily, and by 2017, I started experiencing debilitating shoulder pain.

When I sought help, my primary doctor ordered an X-ray and reassured me that everything was fine. He prescribed medication, but the pain persisted. Next, I was referred to physical therapy, which I diligently attended for about six weeks, yet it brought no relief. Frustrated and still in pain, I returned to my doctor, who suggested a cortisone shot. It felt like magic—the pain disappeared almost overnight.

However, the relief was short-lived, lasting only about six months before the pain returned, worse than before. It was around this time that a friend recommended a therapist who specialized in a unique technique for addressing muscle pain. Skeptical but desperate for relief, I decided to give it a try. That decision was life-changing.

After just a few months of treatment, my shoulder significantly improved, and I became a regular client. I was fascinated by the technique and began asking countless questions about how it worked. Seeing my enthusiasm, the therapist eventually asked if I’d be interested in learning the technique myself.

A few years later, I enrolled in massage school to earn my license and become a certified massage therapist in California. Upon graduating, I began training under the guidance of this therapist and his wife, learning a powerful approach called Advanced Muscle Reconditioning (AMR), developed by Brian Bronk.
Their mentorship gave me a solid foundation in understanding the mechanics of muscle rehabilitation.

“Throughout the years, as I applied what I learned, I began to see areas where the technique could be enhanced to provide even deeper, more holistic results. Drawing from my training, personal experience, and further research, I developed the Holistic Muscle Rehabilitation (HMR Method). While HMR Method shares similarities with AMR, it takes a more comprehensive approach by treating the body as an interconnected whole.”
